Top-Seeded Men's Lacrosse Team Tops St. John Fisher In ECAC Semifinal

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Bombers advanced to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Upstate NY final, beating St. John Fisher 16-13. Ithaca, ranked 11th nationally, improves to 12-4 and will host second-seeded Nazareth Sunday at 3 p.m. in the ECAC Upstate NY final.

Six different Bombers scored goals as Ithaca broke a 5-5 halftime tie. The Cardinals, who lost their third game of the season to Ithaca, scored three of the game’s final four goals but never trailed by less than three goals after giving up the first six goals of the second half.
 
Sophomore Matt Nelligan (Pingree School/Rowley, Mass.) led Ithaca with seven points, collecting two goals and a career-best five assists. Senior Doug Lumb (Auburn/Auburn) added a career-high five points (three goals, two assists). His man-down goal put Ithaca up 11-5 in the third quarter. Sophomore Logan Bobzien (Arapahoe/Littleton, Colo.) finished with two goals and two assists. Senior Brandon Geluso (Harborfields/Greenlawn) added two goals and an assist. Freshman Mike Giunta (B. Reed Henderson/West Chester, Pa.) recorded his first career two-goal game and freshman Matt Ruhnke (Brien McMahon/Norwalk, Conn.) scored his first collegiate goal. Ruhnke also won 12 of 18 faceoffs and led Ithaca with eight ground balls.
 
Junior Dennis Butler (Pleasantville/Pleasantville) made eight saves and picked up seven ground balls.

Nazareth beat Oneonta 15-5 in Friday's other semifinal.
